11/30/2002 Trying to Raise a Family in SF

Hey Mike,

The American Dream is harder to achieve now more than ever, as evident by a shrinking middle class, and the fact that it takes two wage earners to raise a family, rather than one - as it did not that long ago. Money won't buy you happiness, or the American dream, not even a million dollars. I know, I've been there. Do something good for you and all of us, help our society break the relentless pursuit of the dollar, help teach our children that the American Dream should be about having time to raise your children, expressing your artistic gifts, time to be spiritual (whatever that might look like) and give to the community through meaningful work. Employment is the best form of wealth redistribution. Making jobs is the best thing any of us can do, because it allows others to pursue and realize their dreams. So take your talents - and you obviously have them - and help us out. All work and no play makes America a dull place in my humble opinion. My hat's off to you to challenge the notion of the American Dream - because it needs to be challenged and changed! That's something to work towards and would be rewarding too. Go for it. See how many jobs you can create for others - you'll earn your first million and a lot quicker.

Best wishes to you.

Sincerely, "Trying to raise a family in SF"

Spoken like a good parent. My hat's off to you, sir, for you have the hardest job of all.
